MALIBU, CA (July 14, 2022) – Every generation has its naysayers who say rock and roll is dead — and yet, every generation, kids strap on guitars and pick up drumsticks to offer up their own take on the classic American music. Brother-and-sister act VIOLET SATURN summon the raw energy and provocations of pop-punk and classic rock with a fresh, Gen Z twist. 17-year-old lead singer Lauren Carr Reed brings powerful vocals and an impressive range to the band’s addictive, angsty songs, while 20-year-old Spencer holds down the instrumentals and production. Violet Saturn will debut their catchy track about jealousy, “Who Is She?,” at 9:00P PST – listen here.

Crafting a vibe that sounds as fun, heavy and vibrant to their Gen Z peers as it does to rock fans of all ages, it always seemed inevitable to these Southern California kids that they would make it, together. “We just always knew this was our path, and it’s really cool to start putting out more of the songs Spencer and I have created. We really get what the other is trying to express so it’s a lot of fun collaborating,” says Lauren.

Turning demos that Spencer spent the COVID-19 pandemic refining on ProTools into singles, with assists from heavy hitters like drummer Josh Freese (Devo, Guns N’ Roses, Paramore) and bassist Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction, Alanis Morissette), “Who Is She?” is the first product of those exciting sessions. Lauren shows off her powerful-beyond-her-years voice on the track and easily pinpoints their aesthetic with an insider’s lingo – “strong relatable hooks, but with the edginess of rock.”

Spencer continues, “Lauren observes the world around her and adds a layer of fantasy to create these cool stories we can relate to even if we haven’t lived them all. On ‘Who Is She?’ I really wanted to amp up the production in a way that felt a little alarming especially with Lauren’s surprisingly fierce vocal.”

Los Angeles rock station KLOS, who previously featured Malibu-based siblings as part of their program highlighting unsigned artists, now invites the Big Machine Records Rock artists for another appearance. Violet Saturn will join the Heidi and Frank Show in the 9:00-10:00A PST hour to catch up their new music and hear their longtime champions give “Who Is She?” its first spin.

Playing music together since grade school, they made their stage debut mashing-up “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” featuring Lauren on violin, with “Smoke On The Water,” performed by Spencer who had already started teaching himself guitar. The music they have created since continues to highlight the undeniable blend of their many influences, from Paramore and Lana Del Rey to Gwen Stefani and Avril Lavigne to classic rock.

With Violet Saturn, Lauren and Spencer are putting their own youthful spin on sounds that are both timeless and provocative — and right on trend, as Gen Z starts to dig into the glories of distortion and power chords.
